Archangel returns, creepier than ever!
"I concentrated on the time when Archangel was still under Apocalypse's influence, and by influence, I mean physical and mental torture, and altering his appearance a little beyond making his skin blue. I always thought that Apocalypse saw himself as a(n) (Egyptian) god, so I decided to redesign Archangel "In [his] image." Since Archangel's original metal wings covered his feathered ones, I made an exoskeleton concept that is similar to the idea of bionic legs, which strengthen Archangel's wings, but designed to look like a bat or dragon's wings are built, reflecting a bit of his demonic side, the opposite of angelic. Since he has no bladed feathers to shoot, I gave him a spear, because they're cool.
"As for the ridiculous helmet, I wanted to make an interesting silhouette that looks creepy, war-like and un-ordinary so that when he flies in at night to kill the X-Men, he looks a little more intimidating than somebody wearing a tight, blue hood."

really cool and creepy redesign, would love to se this look applied to Apocalypse and the rest of the Horsemen.
ReplyDeleteThe tortured face in the back is really well done.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty cool, and similar to what I had in mind. I agree with TBolt, I'd love to see your take on Poccy and the other horsemen in this style.
ReplyDeleteI considered doing the other horsemen along with Wolverine since he was Death. I might do them down the line, maybe as 1 painting, who knows
ReplyDeletePaul, if you end up doing that, let me know. I'll link to it here, on Facebook, Twitter, etc. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a plan, Alex. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYah this is indeed an eerie Archangel design.
ReplyDeleteInteresting idea to incorporate some design element of the Mighty Apocalyse.
Are those a pair of pig ears I'm seeing?! haha
