Black Cat Results - Part III

Richard JP Le Guen

"I had two goals with this Black Cat costume. First, I wanted to try making her affiliation to the 'Spider-Man Family' of characters more visible - hence the spider-net shirt. Second, I wanted to find her some headgear which is universally associated with a cat, but which causes no one to think of Catwoman - hence, a 'Cat in the Hat' hat."

Chad E. Townsend
"The first rule I set for myself was that this version of the Black Cat would be usable on an animated TV series. Like most shows, the demographic is for the 12 up audience. So I had to make Felicia cute, youthful and attractive in appearance. As well, the 80's Hooker outfit had to go. Sorry, I am so over that look. Her outfit still had to show off her figure, but most importantly it needs to look functional. Who run's around in polished latex and booties? You need clothes that can take a beating and shoes you can really move in."

  2. Richard JP Le Guen: Not too sure about the hat. However I think the netting costume that resembles Spidy's costume is rather interesting. It does helps to differentiate between Blackcat and Catwoman.

Chad E. Townsend: Nice~ Marvel's answer to the DC's recent Teen Titan cartoon. The design is very visible as a animation character design. Simple, up-to-date, easy for youngsters to associate and appreciate. Like the way you tied up Felicia's hair. Although similar to the core concept of Michael Lee Lunsford's redesign but the look and feel is rather different. 2 urban teenager Blackcats catfighting over the title of the Blackcat! haha

  3. Richard: I like that you were thinking outside the box on this. Your re-imagining has a very Clockwork Orange feel to it. This is Stanley Kubrick's Black Cat!

Chad: I like this very much! It's clean, functional and a wee bit sexy. The only place I balked was at the running shoes and the tail. I'm not sure the tail is needed and I would expect Felicia to go with some split toe boots to help with climbing.

  4. I like Townsend's, it would work great for a cartoon or all-ages version of the character. They should have made the ultimate version of the Black Cat a young girl. I like how the belt hangs loose like a tail (i'm assuming that's what that is). I'd stick with the white hair though.

  5. I like the cartoon/all-ages style of Chad's piece, too. I also like that the costume shows Felicia's physical prowess, without turning her into a sex-kitten at the same time.

  6. I like the hat in Richard's piece, too, but the only thing that strikes me is how it stays on while swinging through New York. But considering that her breasts manage to stay in place in most costume incarnations, it's not hard to fudge that detail.

  7. @Alex Getts - Exactly. The hat has a chin strap made of the same magic transparent invisible material her 'support' is made of.

@McBoo - I haven't seen ClockWork, but having one's work compared to Kubrick can only be a compliment! Thank you :)

@Lee Chen Fang - Thanks! Differentiating between Blackcat and Catwoman was part of what I was striving for; in the same way people look at Catwoman and think of Batman right away I hoped people would look at this design and think of Spidey.
