Atom Eve Results - Part V

Another fantastic redesign has entered our Big Shiny Robot!-sponsored contest!
Rose Raimundo
Editor's Note: Rose didn't leave any thoughts on her redesign.

Aldo Ojeda
"Atom Eve is very powerful; I wanted to depict her costume as a manifestation of raw energy."

Joy Christian Juyo
"When a superhero like Atom Eve can manipulate matter via sheer will power, all you have to do is show her sexiness and flaunt it. Deviating a bit from a traditional superhero costume, I replaced the cape with a jacket/coat covering her sleeveless shirt with her insignia. I incorporated some armwarmers and glasses/visor, which I dont think is very dated. Finally, skintight pants to show off her figure without revealing too much skin -- just the navel tease. Her original color combo is just too awesome to mess with."

What do you think? Let us know what you think in the comments below! Be sure to check out Atom Eve Results - Parts I, II, III and IV; there's still time to submit, so be sure to check out the Official Contest Announcement for details. Hurry! Atom Eves are due by April 22!

Be extra sure to check out Big Shiny Robot!, our sponsor for the Atom Eve contest. They are providing us with artist-signed copies of Invincible vols. 5 & 6 for the contest winner! That's a killer deal for whomever wins!

Stay tuned for more Atom Eve redesigns!

  1. Another very nice redesign. I like the way the atomic symbol interacts with the piping of the costume. And I like the little jacket too.

I know we're not getting many comments this month, but people who aren't checking these out are missing the best contest so far, IMHO.

  2. Comments are low, but there are a lot of hits so far. Hopefully we'll get a load of submissions as the due date approaches.

  3. Speaking for myself, I have trouble leaving comments regarding characters I don't know. I have zero familiarity with Atom Eve, and can't even begin to guess whether or not the costume redesigns are appropriate or what. I read up on her character summary (via the Wikipedia link from the contest announcement), but that article gave no feel as to her personality.

I don't know if she's a squealing girly-girl who loves Hello Kitty and all things pink, or if she's an uber nerd who constantly views the world as a collapsing wave function. The various submissions so far have run the gamut from average teenage girl-next-door to skanktastic swimsuit model to bespectacled bookworm. I can't tell if any of those outfits suit Atom Eve or not.

During the Robin contest, I was easily making judgements like, "Oh, Damian would totally wear that" or "That's more Tim Drake than Jason Todd", since I'm familiar with those characters' personalities. I have no such background with Atom Eve, so I can really only enjoy the illustrations, and have no opinion on the effectiveness of the designs. When voting time comes around, I'll probably pick the drawing that catches my eye the most, rather than the design that suits the character best.

  4. Atom Eve started her superhero career as a young teen, often partnered with another teen hero, Rex Plode. She is now a young woman 18 or 19 years old (I'm guessing). She's a confident capable superhero of tremendous power and (until very recently) tremendous self-confidence. All of the costumes so far have been mostly appropriate for the character at various ages, so yeah, Wrath, the criteria of choosing the one that catches your eye the most works just fine. :)

And my comment wasn't a complaint -- it was to encourage people to comment. Hope I didn't offend anyone. And if I did, I offer my apologies. :)

  5. Wrath - I totally understand. I hope no one would feel "pressured" to comment. I love reading them just because I enjoy involving myself with the community here. It's a lot of fun. But I can understand with not knowing the characters. I think that will change after next month's X-23 contest a bit for the rest of the year (until the Anniversary mark) since most -- if not ALL -- of the characters will have made some sort of movie and/or television appearance in the past and are more well-known. That said, I appreciate your involvement here! :)

As for the pieces: I really liked Rose's and think she did a phenomenal job covering Atom Eve up. Unlike say, the recent Wonder Woman redesign, the jacket works. The only thing I'm not 100% sold on it the female-symbol on the mask, but that's minor.

I really like Aldo's energy costume concept. Very cool, and I think it'd look cool in motion. The only thing I'm missing is some kind of logo.
