War Machine Results - Part II

War Machine's are in! Here is the final batch for this month's contest!

Ross Radke
"I wanted to push it away from being just a suit of high-tech armor to more of a giant 'mech'. Maybe Rhodey sits inside and pilots it like a Power Ranger, or maybe his arms and legs were blown off and he's now a cyborg like Darth Vader. For some reason I had this image in my mind of a giant robot fiddler crab, which is why I gave him the large gatlen gun arm, little arms and the outer 'shell'."

Warren Newsom
Editor's Note: Warren didn't leave any particular thoughts on his redesign.

Kevin Prieto
"I always loved doing armors and mechs, so when I saw that there was a competition for War Machine, I had no choice but to participate!"

Richard JP Le Guen
"With the recent Civil War schism, I think it could have been interesting for War Machine to have a change of heart, and model himself after Captain America more than Iron Man. I decided to leave his primary color as black so as to distinguish him from Iron Patriot and the 'What If: Civil War' Iron Man. It has the added benefit of connecting him to the classic War Machine look, as well as the US Agent. And yes, that's an arc reactor in his shield. He can still shoot you when hiding behind the it."

Pharoah Bolding

"I wanted to do something with War Machine that, for some reason, no one ever does: I wanted to make him less bulky. If he's a warrior he should be able to get out there and scrap, melee style! My design was an integration of the 70's-80s armors with a touch of the classic War Machine look.

"Smaller rocket boots gives him more leg flexibility so he can kick the crap out of people easier. Mini rocket launchers on the wrists with missile loaders connected to the upper arms are easily reloaded. I kept a shoulder machine gun, it's bullet reserve on the back, mainly because it is War Machine and he is heavy artillery. I added a pulse cannon-style weapon in the center of his chest, arc light style. I finished that off with the ultimate melee weapon - wrist blades. By channeling the repulsor rays through the blades he will definitely pack a punch!"

What do you all think? Let us know in the comments below!

Entries this month were a little very sparse, so hopefully next month will be better. I know everyone gets busy, so I just want to thank everyone who participated in this contest, and in all the contests before!

Stay tuned for the announcement of this month's winner on July 31, and keep an eye on Superhero of the Month; we have some really cool stuff coming over the course of this week!

  2. The "mecha feet" on Ross Radke are really brilliant. Taking War Machine in that direction could help differentiate it in a simple, easily recognizable way that different artists could all adapt to & play with. Just a nice conceptual twist; elegant & evocative.

  7. Ross Radke's War Machine is gonna have really muscular thighs if that design constantly forces him into a squat position like that. I really like the design, but would like to see him push the crustacean aspect more.

Warren Newsom's entry makes me think of Atom Smasher mashed up with some kind of Gobot (maybe Cy-Kill)! By minifying the guns, and embedding the rocket launcher, I think he's losing the warlike aspects that make him a War Machine. The color scheme also comes across as a bit festive, rather than militant.

Kevin Prieto's render is awesome. I'm getting a robo-shogun vibe off that design. I also like the modified color scheme.

I like Richard Le Guen's line of thinking with War Machine as US Agent. If he works the color distribution a bit more, the stripes on his waist won't seem so out of place. Maybe add red elsewhere (like instead of the yellow-orange holes).

I like the top half of Pharaoh Bolding's design. The lower half feels incomplete without the level of detail seen in the upper half. Also, the arm blades come off as farcical in the presence of his firepower.
