Wonder Woman Results - Part IX

Entries are still rolling in for the for the Superhero of the Month and Girls Read Comics Wonder Woman redesign contest!

Hector Barros

"Wonder Woman is a beautiful, goddess-like butt-kicker who came from Paradise Island to show you the benefits of ancient culture (and diet) so I went with a strong, superheroic look, losing all USA references in favour of a Greek-Byzantine armour and jewelry."

George Kambadis

"For this redesign, I took some elements from the new Wonder Woman's costume and the animated version. Also I wanted to put some dark elements, but unfortunately the piercings and the tattoos made her look way out of character. So the only things that i keep from the darkest revision I did before this sketch was the mask on her face."

What do you all think? Let us know in the comments below!

Be sure to check out all of the Wonder Woman entries received so far! Remember that all Wonder Woman redesigns are due Wednesday, August 24 by 6:00 PM MDT! Details on the contest can be found here

  3. Man, Hector really hit out the ball park with his design. The suit, the logo, the colors. Just everything! Great job, words can't explain how much I like this design.

I also love George's design. Just by looking at it, I quickly thought wow, if they ever did a revamp animated version of her, this should be her look. I love the fact of a mask, it really takes her on a different route.

  4. Both of these designs are fantastic. Hector really hit it out of the park. Like many redesigns we've seen so far, I'd have loved to see this instead of what she's wearing in the DCnU.

George's design is also fantastic, and would fit beautifully in the DCAU. It's a great redesign. Just about everything we've received thus far has been great!

  5. I like the color style on the first one, but she doesn't look like Wonder Woman. Is more like her clothe in her home, not the suit that will define her as a hero or wonder woman.

I like best the other one, George's design is cool, I like it for an animation, but I don't like the mask, it makes her look like a thief or a criminal than a hero.

No offense, but there's others that are better, just because this guys are well known doesn't mean they have the most amazing designs.

  6. Thanks guys for your comments :) its the only way to learn! :)

  7. Here you are, aren't you? I'm not offending you, is my perception.

Is not wrong for someone not to like your design, you color skills are great don't get me wrong, but I don't think your design is...fitting to Wonder Woman, to Diana yes, but not to the hero style.

  8. I already thanked all the comments, the positive and specially the negative as the only way to learn. I dont think my design is the best, not even in the top 3, either :)

This site is all about design (not color skills, nor art level), I took part in a couple of contests here but I didnt win any (and that´s probably the numer one reason why I keep coming back and trying again), so I dont think Im "well known". But I´ve been around here (as a follower) long enough to learn that there is no place for favoritissms in this site.

    That´s why I love SHotM

  9. That's totally fine, but it's certain that you have your followers =) And even though is not a hability contests, skills does help, and is not wrong for people to like your colors skills neither. I just don't like the design that much.

Well, good to know then that it will be a fair contests then.

P.D: By the way , I certainly think that if you would kept Wonder Woman colors, your design would've improve a lot =)Because that is the issue I think...

  10. Once the deadline is over, I´ll post a link to a recoloured version to show you that it wouldnt work ;)

Besides, I wanted to try something different, because almost everyone here is using the classic colour scheme, and if I wanted the lightest chance, I had to go other way

  11. Hector - If you want, I'll feature the alternate color version on the site; up to you, but the offer's there.

Alice - I respectfully disagree, I think Hector's submission screams "Wonder Woman." It's very different, but in my opinion, it looks much , much more like Wonder Woman than, say, Jim Lee's 2010 redesign. But everyone's entitled to their opinion.

Part of what I think makes SHotM great is our revolving door of guest-judges; in addition to our staff, we usually have at least one or two guest-judges. This tapers down any "favoritism" that might spring up. I think the entry I would have picked as the winner has only won a couple of times, and usually, those wins have been close. And this time we have four guest-judges, so I honestly have no idea how this is going to turn out!

  12. Hey Hey! Welcome back, Hector!

    Love the chest plate.

  13. Love both of these! Hector's is definitely a bit darker than I'm used to for Wonder Woman, but it is instantly recognizable.

I adore the second design, partially because I simply love that art style. However, it feels more like Wondergirl than Wonder Woman. This is not an insult - Wondergirl was one of my favorite characters from the Young Justice comic.
