Alright! We're back with a slew of Vader's! Check 'em out!
Note: I am aware all links may not be working. I will fix this as soon as I can. Thanks!
"I wanted to have a Vader that bridged the gap between Anakin, as we last saw him on Mustafar and the dark lord of the galaxy he came to be. I made his robotic limbs a shiny black to give the feel of the Vader along with the helmet and respirator which is necessary. His clothes however are still the charred remains of the clothes he wore when he was burned and there's clear scarring in the flesh that's visible.
"To make this design work, I came up with some revisionist history for my Darth Vader. Darth Vader didn't let Palpatine finish putting him back together. He got his arms and legs and the respirator to help him breathe. Knowing it was all Palpatine's doing, Vader fights his way off the operating table and kills Palpatine and everything else in the room. Vader would command the Empire claiming the orders were coming from Palpatine."
"After Anakin Skywalker's defeat on Mustafar, Emperor Palpatine had to act quickly to save his life. Aware that Anakin would not survive long, Palpatine had to improvise. A Clone Trooper's armour was modified to act as a ventilator/ life support suit. Recovered parts from General Grievous's droid body were used to replace the limbs Anakin lost during his battle with Obi-Wan Kenobi."
"To me, Vader's always been kinda the literal elephant in the room: a dark presence of the Emperor. I used the standard Red/Black color combo. Gave him a half mask because most of the time his hood would be pulled down over his eyes, but then to have to look into his eyes, I would say would be frightening. On his right hand, this massive gauntlet is an amplifier for his lightning powers. There are gauges along the forearm to indicate voltage."
"My take on this one is based on the insanity of fear (that's the Dark Side, baby). Having a starting point of insanity and fear, I thought I'd hybrid Vader with a minion of Cthulhu and here it is. Presenting the creepy, crawly, squidy, spooky Dark Lord of the Sith."

Lastly, check out this cool 3-D video!
I kind of want to grow up to be Spider Vader.
ReplyDeleteDarth Cthulhu kinda creeps me out...
ReplyDeleteI gotta give points to Mike Perry, as I'm embarrassed to admit that when I zoomed in on his work, seeing the flesh of Vader's knees and abdomen made me momentarily nauseous.
ReplyDeleteI like Craig Payne's, especially the mask and the the back story, but giving Vader Grevious' limbs makes me feel like the character would end up stuck in Grevious' shadow. He'd walk into a room and everyone would be all like "Hey there's that guy with Grevious' limbs!" instead of "Here comes Lord Vader; who's gonna die?"
T. Branch's submission blew me away! It's probably my favorite so far... but it also of gives me more of a "What if Palpatine had fought Obi Wan on Mustafar?" feeling.
Francis James Hogan definitely cranked the creativity up to 11! The mask is easily soil-your-pants scary. I kind of wish the spider legs looked a little more nimble/agile.
Looks like between Francis James Hogan's submission and Mike Perry's I've had the full digestive track treatment. ♪ Pepto Bismol! ♪
I've seen Craig Payne's design before in a ComicVine competition. It's a great piece of work but it looked oddly familiar. http://www.comicvine.com/forums/artist-show-off/4/costume-contest-30-darth-vader/572891/?page=1
ReplyDeleteI also see a resemblance. But I'm pretty sure that the artist is the same so, it's not plagiarism it's just submitting the same design to multiple sites.
ReplyDeleteIf you look on his comic vine profile the pic is the same as that on Craig's blog.
In case plagiarism was a question, I can 100% guarantee this is Craig Payne's design. It was obviously entered in another contest, but if people want to resubmit something they've used in the past here, that's 100% okay with me.
ReplyDeleteMike's design... so creepy. I like that he's had a chance to have the respirator/helmet, but he hasn't removed his tattered, burned old clothes. Such a boy thing to do.
ReplyDeleteI love that Craig's makes use of Anakin's backstory as some sort of boy-genius (when it comes to building things)- and it's nice to see the poor General put to good use!
T-Branch's is seriously imposing. I can imagine worlds falling to their knees if a Vader that magestic (and clearly evil) strode out onto the battlefield (or into the canteen).
And, wow. Francis's shiny Vader-Cthulhu ... just wow. Arachnaphobes and gibbering cultists alike would become scared/angry/hateful/suffering... and dark!
