Alright! They've been a long time coming, but here they are -- the first round of redesigns in the
Superhero of the Month &
Batman-News.com Batman contest!
 |
| George Kambadais |
"There's no logical explanation for this redesign. When I did this my mind was somewhere between Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond. I have no idea who's under the mask, but it could be Bruce, or Dick, or someone else like Commissioner Gordon or Alfred. I just did it for fun!"
"I focused on an armored version as seen in the Nolan films."
"I wanted to try keeping the blue-groin-area/gray-legs without resorting to over-the-pants-underwear, so I tried putting Batman in cowboy chaps! And since it would be tough, getting all that bat-equipment into just a belt, Batman's sporting a (small) bat-pack under his cape."
"So I went with a more steampunk style at first, with the goggles, breathing apparatus (for his smoke bombs) and the shirt itself. Then I went with a slightly more medieval look with his armored boots. Had to keep the utility belt and the cape and the ears obviously and this is what I came up with."
What do you all think? All very different, but great takes on the Batman. Let us know what you think in the comments below, and be sure to send us your Batman redesigns before October 24! Check out the
Official Contest Announcement for details!
I really like Kombadais as sort of a Bat Drone - something an old Bruce Wayne might use via remote control to crack down on street crime.
ReplyDeleteThere is something almost cool about the top half of Le Guens, but I am not digging the bat-chaps.
@RtR - Ya, I have to agree with you about mine. When I finished drawing it I considered re-doing it... but then I realized he'd make a good team with my male-stripper Aquaman! ( http://www.superheroofthemonth.com/2011/03/aquaman-results-part-iv.html )
ReplyDeleteTogether they're almost half as sexually liberated as StarFire is :P
George Kambadais's makes me think of Terry, but with a Robo-cop style back-story about how he was rebuilt by Wayne-Powers Corp.
Winston Gambro's is an excellent demonstration of how the Nolan-style armored suit can translate into drawings nicely; by contrast right now the new-52 Batman costume's extra seams don't make me think of armor, but just of too-many-lines.
Alex M. Wiley's really makes me think of Owlman ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owlman_%28comics%29 ). As though it's the it's the good counterpart of the evil counterpart of the Batman.
RtR - Yes, it very well could fit into Kingdom Come, couldn't it?
