Brian Post's JLA

Brian Post's been submitting to Superhero of the Month for a while now, always sending in some killer designs, and nearly snagging the Wonder Woman contest. Here, he expands on some of his past entries and adds a few more to give us his version of the JLA!

Brian Post's Aquaman, Green Lantern, Superman, Batman, Flash and Wonder Woman
Aquaman: "From a world where he lost his right hand, he had his Atlantean wizard-scientists create an energy sword for the missing hand, which works much like a lightsaber. This gave Aquaman much more versatility in offensive and defensive combat situations. His wetsuit-inspired jumpsuit is practical in and out of the water. My Aquaman is an inspiration, not only leading the JLA, but as an example of what one can accomplish after a traumatic injury if one stays positive."

Green Lantern: "I went with the whole 'Emerald Knight' motif, with light construct armor that the ring would activate when he is about to go into action."

Superman: "This is the one I'm most proud of. I, like many other people, am not really feeling the new armor he's currently sporting, so I wanted to see if I could do something better. Firstly, I wanted to re-do that classic 'S' because I've always hated how it looked. I wanted to come up with something that was first Kryptonian, and also by coincidence looked kind of like an 'S' we would recognize on Earth. Once the 'S' was sorted I wanted to streamline and harmonize the colors. Three colors, all from the classic costume, but darkened a bit. To take the edge off the bright yellow I chose to do a gold, not to show Superman is 'upper-crust' or anything, but as an homage to the golden-yellow sun from whence he gets his powers."

Batman: "I didn't change much. All I did for this one was change the bat-symbol by tweaking it a bit and then segmenting it, and then throwing in some color by adding a yellow outline."

The Flash: "Wally West will always be my Flash. I wanted to change the logo, so I went with a minimalistic approach. Going with more of a die-cut or stamp kind of vibe to update it and give it a more modern, polished look. Also I added goggles, because they just make sense on speedsters, and yellow gloves to balance out the use of the yellow boots."

Wonder Woman: "I decided to keep a lot of elements traditional and recognizable. The colors are slightly darker, but still rich. I first decided to ditch the tiara because that thing would fall off in a fight anyway. I added some shoulder armor and kinda turned that tiara into a neck choker/armor feature. I moved the stars from her bikini area down to her boots so that villains would be seeing stars before and after she kicked them! Zing!"

  1. The Wonder Woman design I like, but would keep stars on the shorts as well as the boots.

The rest I don't really care for, sorry.

Superman is much too bland, though the S symbol is a decent reinterpretation.

    Flash is woefully generic.

Batman is acceptable, but as you said you didn't really do much to it.

Green Lantern, the symbol is too high on his chest, and I'm just not digging the arm or leg armor.

With Aquaman the orange and green just look silly when used with so much black and the lightsaber hand I just don't like. I would definitely prefer the old magical water hand over a lightsaber pseudo hook/sword, but that still doesn't help the rest of the costume.
