OFFICIAL CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENT - THE AVENGERS

Avengers assemble! Earth's Mightiest Heroes are in need of costume overhauls!

Superhero of the Month is proud to present the Avengers as our theme for our April/May contest -- just in time for the team to make their big-screen debut!

Here's the challenge: Assume you are tasked with putting together a team of five (5) Avengers. You can choose any five you like, so long as they have been a member of the Avengers at some point in their career. (For an extensive list of Avengers members, click here.) As a team, they also need to be cohesive in their design in some way, but that interpretation is left to you. All standard guidelines apply.

Because of the amount of characters we're asking you to redesign, we're giving you an extended deadline of Sunday, May 20 by 6:00 PM MDT to complete this task. We will not be posting designs until May 1, but you are, of course, free to send in your redesigns at any point before the deadline.

Please send your team of Avengers in one (1) unified image. Failure to do so will result in your redesigns being rejected. (Consider it a lesson learned from the Birds of Prey contest. It took my time to stitch some submissions together, and while that was okay for two characters, it's not something I'm willing to do for five.) While individual shots of your team may be sent in as supplemental material, their inclusion on Superhero of the Month will be determined on a case-by-case basis. They may, however be shown on the appropriate auxiliary sites.

Two notes due to the extended deadline:

1) No extensions will be granted for this contest. With seven weeks to do your designs, there should be plenty of time, and we're anticipating we will need all the time we can get to judge these submissions.

2) During the month of April, we will be posting redesigns of any character(s) you wish to send to us. So if you have a design you've been sitting on that you're rather proud of, send it our way!

Good luck! If you have any questions, sound off in the comments below, or send us an email.

    1. Ha, unfortunately, eh? I figured we needed to keep it semi-restrained. ;)

  3. So, when you say "Avengers", you do mean the main team and not New/Dark/West Coast etc.? Also, do honorary members count, or just official ones?

I understand that this is with the coming movie in mind, but you wrote the subject so broadly that I'd like some extra clarity. Those mentioned teams are Avengers, just not "the" Avengers, you know?

Anyway, I'm hoping for some wacky combinations of Avengers with this challange, so this'll be fun!

    1. I'm fine with teams that fall under the "Avengers" banner (i.e. New, West Coast, the primary Avengers, etc.) so long as they've been a member -- full-fledged, honorary, reserve, etc. -- at some point.

I'm going to make a judgement call, however, and say Dark Avengers do not count, since they're basically villains posing as the real deal.

Hopefully that helps. Feel free to ask if there are any other questions!

    2. That was fast, and yes, it did help, thanks!

  4. I've managed to narrow my selection down to 23!! Looks like choosing the characters could be harder than doing the designs. Good luck judging this one.

I know, I think judging is going to be intense...

  5. So, with submitting redesigns I've got a really good Goku (DBZ) and Riddler pics to send in however I have a few questions.

    1) Is Goku acceptable seeing as how he's not technically a superhero, but still falls into that valley of "comics"

    2) Both pictures are from the waist up knees up and is that acceptable or do you need a more general picture showing EVERYTHING?

Excited for the avengers contest as well.

    1. To answer your questions, Goku is totally fine to send in, and it's fIne if they're not full-body shots.

However, if you were submitting for a contest, I'd recommend full-body shots, as the lack of full detail has affected great redesigns before.
