Extra Avengers!

Entries for the Avengers contest were limited to one submission per contestant, but that didn't stop some Superhero of the Month contributors from going the extra mile. Here is their additional work:

Edgar Binuya
"The Vision: I was aiming at the strong and streamlined look he sported in the Anti-Vision body back in the 90's while trying to incorporate a 'V' in the design. I pushed the redesign further by incorporating the barefoot look from his white body. Even as a 'synthezoid', he may need to cover up, but he shouldn't need boots, or gloves, for that matter.

"Wonder Man: To me, Wonder Man has always had pretty gaudy costumes. This is my effort at making him look cool. I brought back the hip propulsion packs because I thought they were a neat and unique concept. They are ion powered by him and can be used offensively as guns.

"Tigra: I was looking at pictures of actual tigers to really nail down the look of her stripes and realized that if she could develop stripes and even a tail, she would develop the actual coloring and markings of a tiger. So I added the white fur and changed the markings on her face to more closely resemble that of a tiger's. I then pushed it further with ears that ever so slightly peak out of her hair.

"Black Knight: While wanting to make him armored, I wanted to keep it minimal. In order to make him look like the perfect balance of science and magic, I focused on making the armor look modern but medieval inspired. He wields the Ebony Blade as well as an energy shield that also doubles as an additional blade.

"Sersi: I found inspiration for this from Dejah Thoris' gown in the John Carter movie. I also basically took the crisscrossed bands from her latest costume and went crazy with it."

SplendorEnt
"The man for when things get odd, The Merc with the Mouth, Your friendly neighborhood web-slinger, The best at what he does, The man without fear, The Wakandaan Ambassador, The SHIELD AGENT turned hero that lost her powers and became a consultant and then got her powers back, The marksman, The billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, The Super Soldier, The demigod of thunder, The incredible one up to your army, The Russian assassin, The Hero for hire, The martial artists, The bounty hunter, The mystery, The vigilante, And last but not least the former Captain America replacement that became the director of SHIELD."

Sarah Meissner
Editor's Note: Sarah didn't leave any thoughts on her submission, but we enjoyed her minimalist take on the Avengers!

David Karrow
"My second team is inspired about the second class citizenship that the Avengers impose on the X-Men whenever they disagree with the way Cap has things planned out. These mutants, though immensely powerful in different ways, and have been inducted into the avengers for different reasons, are all looked at as lesser for being powerful, without having to be frozen in ice, or be a genius, or be a god.

"Firestar, one of my long time faves suffers from the disadvantage of being the only mutant to suffer from the negative effects of her own power. having received cancer, and being rendered infertile by her own radioactivity, Firestar has been given this suit which channels out her radiation, and protects her from herself. her should armor functions as an exhaust system to expunge radioactive gasses that have been rendered harmless by the suit. Her gloves have holes in them so that she can channel her fire out though the palms of her hands.

"Namor, King of Atlantis is notoriously arrogant and that can be illustrated by his wearing panties all of the time or a deep V. his scanty armor over his lower back are made from the finest golds, the rarest of Atlantian green metals, and silver vibranium from the mines of Wakanda. His gold adorned foot wraps allow for more foot exposure to ensure more dynamic underwater maneuverability.

"Beast functions as one of the many MEGA BRAINS who work with the Avengers. but his powers are much more varied. he is an advanced and skilled gymnast, and this long pant singlet allows for him to maneuver more freely. His color choices were also an attempt at separating him from his roots as a blue and yellow X-Man.also, he is reading Shakespeare on his APad.

"Storms hair is so starkly odd from what we expect to see from an African American woman, there is no reason not play with it more; here she has a asymmetrical Rihanna style shave job. and her all black costume serves to enhance her aerodynamics. Varied gadgets can be found on her wrist and fore arm panels, and her breast plate is stark white to match her accessories and uncannily white hair.

"Wiccan is the gay teen son of the Scarlet Witch, and grandson of Magneto, and all that together is a healthy heaping of complicated. His head piece is meant to remind us of who his family is, and where he comes from. A click away from mutant royalty, Billy here is embracing it with his Magneto/Which shaped headpiece, his long gloves, and for a splash of modern teen, ridiculously cute shoes. I stayed with a lot of the similar colors here because Billy is so young he has very little historical colors to run away from."

Thomas Crielly
"Ms. Marvel: This costume is based around her own original costume and the original Captain Marvel's second costume.

"Thor: This is based around Thor's original costume. The "V" area of his costume forms the cape front, and I have tweaked the helmet, too.

"Falcon: This is mostly just juggling around elements of the Falcon's mainstay costume, the main change being that I decided to give him a controllable 'glider-cape' instead of the traditional wings.

"Black Panther: I wanted to adapt the mask/cowl so that you could see his face. I've kept the costume pretty simple and clean- just adding some ribbing texture to make the suit a bit more durable looking and added some gold highlights at the claws.

"Wonder Man: This is based around his black red costume. I added an energy release point in the chest area of the V top."

Christian Scheuer
"Captain Marvel: I based this on the newly announced uniform, but gave it more of a flight/dive suit feel to it."

Christian Scheuer
"Black Widow: I just wanted to give her a dress based on her normal uniform, something like an Avenger's cocktail dress with subtle logos on her arm, leg and shoes.

"Iron Woman / Jocasta: I sort of mashed up some characters, mostly I wanted to have an Iron robot. This design is somewhat of the classic look for an Iron Man suit, the pointy face and simple features, I turned the center chest piece into an oval and gave it that pinkish purple electric glow that Jocasta has in her eyes. She is bigger than other designs to imply that she uses Pym Particles and acts as three or more avengers at once.

"Quake: A simple design, jeans and a top that look like a S.H.I.E.L.D uniform. I simplified the gauntlets and made gloves with smaller mechanicals on them."

Matthew Ray
"Left-to-Right: Vision, Ms. Binary (Ms. Marvel w/ Binary's powers), Photon, Wasp and Ant-Man."

There you have it! Stay tuned to Superhero of the Month in the coming days: June 4, we'll announce the winner of the Avengers contest, and Doctor Octopus results will shortly follow!

Avengers Contest Delay

Just a heads up, the results of the Avengers contest will be delayed. I just got back from a vacation, and haven't even had a chance to do my part in judging. As such, we'll announce the winner on Monday, June 4, with Doctor Octopus results soon to follow. Sorry for the delay, but I'd rather do the whole thing right, than try to rush it. Thanks!

OFFICIAL CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENT - DOCTOR OCTOPUS

With the release of The Amazing Spider-Man just around the corner, we asked readers of Superhero of the Month to tell us which villain from the Raimi trilogy they wanted to see redesigned to tie into the release of the new movie. Overwhelmingly, Otto Octavius took the lead, and never looked back.

As such, Superhero of the Month is proud to present Doctor Octopus as the redesign challenge for June!

Look to your left, and you'll see a costume that may have said "mad scientist" in years past, but screams fashion faux pas today. And that's where you come in. Let's modernize Ock. There's a lot of fun that can be had with him, and in this case, I think the mechanical arms are just as much fair game as the costume is... after all, they've been changed from time-to-time, so I see no reason why we can't have fun with them now.

Doctor Octopus redesigns are due Friday, June 22 by 8:00 PM MST. All basic submission guidelines should be followed. Feel free to shoot any questions to superheroofthemonth@gmail.com. Good luck!

Insert Input Here (Please)!

Over the last two months, we've run a contest that asked you to redesign a team of characters. Prior to that, we asked you to redesign a duo. It was an experiment of sorts, something we thought might be fun to try, particularly in terms of the Avengers contest, as it was, as far as I know, something no other redesign site had done yet.

The contests for the rest of the year will ask artists to focus on individual characters, but we're curious as to whether you'd like to see a team redesign challenge again in the future? Did you enjoy the Avengers contest? Did you hate it? What did you like? What could be done better? Do you think the whole thing was a failure?

We really want your input. Please let us know what you think in the comments about doing team challenges, and anything else you think may make the site better. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Avengers Results - Part 7 [UPDATED]

Finishing up the Avengers submissions with some really interesting teams.

Kamau Mshale

"Avengers women. I know I'm barely making this, I didn't think I would be able to and then I had a few extra hours. and I had an idea I like. even though I wish I could have put more time into it. I tried to do a kinda of traditional look for them. Scarlet witch, is emerald and has more of an Celtic feel. I used red for she-hulk. I used Yoruba all white dress for photon. I tried to get more of a warrior look for war bird who often feels more like that then like a military brat. and I used a very sparse spy game look for black widow. thanks again for the opportunity to be seen."

TBolt

"Left to right: Hulk is working for a division of SHIELD that goes after 1950's Marvel Monsters ala Hellboy. Cap is just a plain old redesign with chest armor and his GI belt, Thor is redesigned to reflect the Norse heritage a bit more than his comics do. Black Widow is a 60's go-go style gal, and big old clunky Iron Man is based off his original look."

Ross Radke

"The Team - Choosing only five team members from their expansive roster was a daunting task, but I decided early on that I wasn't going to pick any of the Avengers who appeared in the film. I wanted to include some founding members, which left only Ant Man and Wasp. From there I worried less about power sets and tried to pick a team that I would have fun writing myself. These aren't necessarily my favorite Avengers, just ones who I thought could use a new design and whose relationships would provide drama. Hank Pym and Machine Man's competing egos would be fun. Two of Pym's exes are on the team and I'd eventually throw Jocasta into the mix, creating the Marvel universe's most awkward love pentagon. Come to think of it, I think all the Avengers has hooked up with everyone else at some point or another.

"Ant Man - Founding Avenger. Innovator in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence. Genius geneticist. Superhero. Wife Beater. Hank Pym will never get respect. Fun costume to redesign, especially coming up with abstract shapes that suggested insects.

"Wasp - I don't think you can have Ant Man without Wasp. Comics are basically super powered soap operas, why not embrace that? I always thought it made sense for Wasp to have a helmet, especially considering how often she was defeated in early Avengers comics by falling debris.

"Machine Man - Super-intelligent, humanoid android. World's greatest Swiss army knife. Companion of Celestials. Alcoholic chauvinist. Aaron Stack is more man than machine. I love both the somber Earth X incarnation and the wacky Nextwave version. This is something of a transitional phase, more similar to his earlier appearance.

"Tigra - Not really a big fan furry titillation, but she could be a good character if she was treated less like a swimsuit model and more like a mixed martial arts fighter.

"Speed - Originally I was going to include Quicksilver, but I thought the team needed some young blood. The red diamond on his chest is a reference to the fact that the original Vision is sort of his father in a convoluted way. That would be an interesting dynamic to explore.

Isaac Bartsch

"I had a hard time making a decision about which Avengers to include with only five slots to fill and so many options.  I ended up with Captain America (Bucky Barnes), Wasp, Hawkeye, Captain Marvel, and Doctor Strange; I chose them based on the wide range of abilities and personalities, I thought it would make for a good story or two with this team dynamic.  I had a blast drawing them and am inspired to draw some more Avengers redesigns.
Mannan Mokhtar

"My line up are the 5 most popular Avengers from the movie at least. From left: Hulk, Thor, Cap, Iron Man, Black Widow. I try not to be too ambitious with my redesign. Accept for Hulk and Cap.  Great fan of the new Hulk take on from Marc Silvestri. Just for me if hulk is long
haired he should be rasta. From 5 avengers i picked i think Cap is the most flexible to redesign. Try to give a more natural and classic look to it. So i came out with the idea of air force uniform for Cap. As for Thor, the Dragon Ball influence was there. Iron Man is classic
enough so no major tweak just make the suit more human this time. Lastly for Black widow i played more with the red black widow symbol and there's a 60's look at the fish net sleeves.

[Update - 5/29]

Omar sent this in with my approval, but I didn't get this off to Mitch. My bad. Because of that, Omar's piece is eligible, it was in with approval, but I dropped the ball. This makes it different than the Extra Avengers! post, which consists of additional submissions and late pieces that did not get the approval of eligibility for the contest through administrator approval. - AG

Omar I. Landeros
"WINTER AGENT - Specialties: Field Leader, Strategist, Pointman

"James 'Bucky' Barnes has been fighting since World War II. He was drafted as the leader of this motley crew due to his phenomenal knowledge in all forms of combat, vast experience in the black ops field and the leadership capabilities gained in his stint as Captain America. He is an excellent strategist and excels and an inspiring leader. His weapons of choice here are twin custom Desert Eagles and anything else he can get his hands on. i wanted his suit to remind me of his Captain America connection but in a much more muted scheme. A cool feature is that his turtleneck unrolls into a ski mask.

"AGENT MOONDRAGON - Specialties: Telepath, Communications, Long Range Support, Psionics

"Our second in command, Heather Douglas, is arguably the most powerful telepath in the planet. She does not possess any superpowers, yet martial arts and other forms of training have honed her body and mind to the pinnacle of human perfection. Able to perform any feat she can put her mind to, the things she can achieve are only limited by her own hubris. Except for the slight heel in her boots, Moon Dragon's suit is now more about combat readiness than vanity. Armor instead of her string bikini and military shades of her usual greens. Her strength of mind make her a an excellent marksman, she's outfitted with a long-range sniper rifle and a Beretta sidearm.

"AGENT VENOM - Specialties: Close Quarter Combat, Heavy Artillery, Demolition

"Flash Thompson’s military career is nothing short of heroic. His combat expertise, and vast experience in the field, makes him our best choice for the muscle of our team fast, hard and loud are his M.O. More importantly he has developed a better understanding of the Venom symbiote making him that much more dangerous in combat and accounts for the size increase. Due to the nature of the symbiote, Venom has the most unique uniform. Asides from the dual glocks and the "Rambo" knife, he carries a lot of explosives so I was going to make his colors more on the hot side, but when I saw how the different blues and purples played together I was sold.

"AGENT ECHO - Specialties: Stealth, Master of Disguise, Espionage & Infiltration

"Maya Lopez was our first choice for our greaseman, stealth, and all around chameleon. Although Echo was chosen in part for her extraordinary acrobatic abilities, and her almost limitless skill with any weapon, her most important asset, is her uncanny ability to mimic any movement, posture or gait down to the smallest twitch of a muscle; making her an unparalleled master of disguise. Echo is equipped with twin Ninjato, a tomahawk and a Walther PPK with a silencer, a la 007. Her suit is mainly dark blacks and reds for stealth, and green accents in connection to her Ronin persona. Tabi boots for extra grip and silence, and no mask. If you see her face is because she meant for you to, or because you're already dead.

"AGENT FIREANT - Specialties: Hacker, Technology, Weaponry, Reconnaissance, Transport

"Being one of the eight most intelligent people in the Marvel Universe, Amadeus Cho is our resident expert in anything mechanical or technological. His new found love and skill with specialized weaponry is no exception. His suit is various shades of red, mostly copper. His recent acquisition and modification of the Antman tech has given him an extra edge using insects and nanobots as remote rangers. Cho does not go out on the field much but he is no slouch when it comes down to it. After having to give back Hercules’ mace, Cho now wields one of his own making, which grants him a limited force field, enhances his strength, can emit EMP’s, and electrocute on impact. Cho prides himself in being prepared for anything and is known to carry different gizmo's with him at all time one never knows what he's gonna come up with next. He never does either."

Avengers Results - Part 6

With time for Avengers submissions rapidly diminishing, a couple more have shown up to compete for the title of Earth's Mightiest Heroes:

Christian Scheuer
"Mockingbird: I decided to keep her outfit simple, with a little bit of the old and new. I like the fact that she appears to wear glasses as a superhero so I made them with dark rims and yellow lenses.

"Talon/X-23: Straightforward design with much less midriff showing. Her armband has claw like strips to recall a bit of family history. And she wears Converse.

"Jewel/Power Woman: I didn't want to do the female version of Power Man thing, so I started fresh and made up a not in street cloths costume. Boot like leggings, covered shoulders and a smaller jewel moved to her chest, no mask as she never had one and her identity is public knowledge.

"Spider Woman: I thought she should have her whole face covered, it adds a bit more spookiness to her, also redesigned the yellow in her costume, pointing up and more angular, the yellow can be "turned off" for a little more stealth.

"Valkyrie: A mix of fashion and that Asgardian look. I ditched the cape and gave her more of a skirt, it looks better than a one-piece swimsuit.

"I went with an all female team because I thought it would be interesting dynamic, master spies, well-trained operatives, investigators and powerful women. Most of these women have been messed with in serious ways: abducted and impersonated by Skrulls, cloned and trained to be a weapon, minds manipulated and death oaths to gods. They all have an Avengers logo on an armband or patch on a shoulder, tying them together while keeping individual looks."

Joshua Daniel
"After the great 'Bendis catastrophe' that wiped out a league of heroes, these are the only Avengers left to figure out what happened, who orchestrated it, and avenge their fallen comrades. They're a group of misfit heroes who are all either former villains or unstable, and the only thing keeping them together is the idea of the team itself. They are...the Avenging Avengers!

"Yellow Jacket was a villain, but decided to use her tech powers for good. She's young, brash and a punk. She has Ant Man's shrinking, Wasp's wings, and Black Widow's stingers. Since 'jacket' is in her name, I gave her an actual jacket, and gave her more of a stylish/posh look. She still thinks this is fun.

"Luke Cage is the strongest on the team. Since he's a close friend of Cap's, he feels it necessary to wear cap's old colors, though he still can't bring himself to put on a proper costume. He's a beloved everyman, probably the most trusted of the group. He regularly fights with Bucky over team leadership.

"Bucky, back in his Winter soldier uniform, can't bare to put the Captain America costume on again, although he embedded a broken piece of cap's shield into his bionic arm. I wanted his arm to be more haphazard, and he wears a scarf for a little color. He leads the team of misfits but he's very secretive and struggles being a leader.

"With this version of Spider-Woman, a piece of the Symbiote attached itself to her, giving her more of her black and white look. She still has flight and laser stingers, but also has webbing now. Usually she can keep it in check, but it creeps in the edges of her psyche on her toes and fingers. I kept just a hint of yellow on her forehead.

"My version of Moon Knight is not the original Moon Knight, but a Skrull trying to copy moon knight who went crazy trying to mimic all his personalities. He's a rogue Skrull fighting for good, and frequently is struggling with who he is. I gave him more wraps and bandages and more of a creepy gangly look, and just a hint of the Skrull chin coming out."

Avengers Results - Part 5

We've got 20  redesigns right here in this very post! So why are you reading this silly intro? Check them out!

Comickergirl
"Well, as for which Avengers I picked, I thought I might take a stab at the movie team. (Sorry Hawkeye, only five redesigns allowed.) I tried for simple, functional designs. I messed with the color scheme a little, to make them look more like a 'team' but still allow for individual costumes. From left to right: Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor."

Justin DeVine
"I redesigned the logo first, turning the Avengers A into that lamda-looking thing in the background, and all the costume designs followed from that.

"Spider-Man's costume set the color scheme (or lack thereof) for the whole of them team, intending as it does to refer both to his traditional black costume and his Future Foundation duds. The only element I didn't feel comfortable changing the color of was Thor's cape, so that red became my accent color for the whole set. I especially enjoy the cord that attaches to Beast's Nez Pince; I imagine it clips to his fur somewhere on the back of his head.

"I've always hated the fact that Vision wore a cape and cowl, so I ditched it and tried to bring his android-nature to the forefront (this is a version of the original, rather than the current iteration). You can't see it in the Assembled image, but I also gave him toes, which is a detail I spent an inordinate amount of time thinking about."

David Karrow
"Doctor strange has always been very Euro in his costumes. Gaudy and extravagant are his middle names. Here i imagine that in his time after being cast down from his spot as the Socerer supreme, that he would have dabbled in other mystic arts. Here we see Strange in a custom Doctor Strange colored custom Shaolin uniform. thinking of all of the moves and mystic energies that flow through the Shaolin Warriors, Doctor strange with some adjustments to his disciplines would naturally fit in as a Shaolin warrior.

"Hellcat, having tutored under Strange seemed like a good team mate for him. Patsy Walker having volunteered for the 50 State Innitiative under Tony Stark, seemed like she might be in line for some subtle armor enhancements, and serious claw upgrade. Patsy walkers history as a model also lead me to believe she may be a bit to vain to run around with a cowl, and that a smaller mask could show some face, adn all that red hair shes been growing out!

"Spider-Woman and her blonde hair are due to me taking a cue from the Luna Brothers Spider-Woman Origin story. she is there identified to be a natural blonde who dyed her hair when she was on the run to black/dark brown, and it stuck. Here she has gone through a clarifying wash, and is sporting her natural color. The black in her uniform elongates her form, and her breastplate bears engravings that have subtle ties to her so far life long uniform. Her metallic shoulder armor house a mechanism that can expand and contract her armpit webs, and her colors are more on key with Spiderman's sort of putting them in a similar spider family.

"War Machine is always portrayed as being so clunky and cumbersome next to his counterpart Iron Man. Current machines of war, such as remote spy planes and similar futuristic tech only lead me to believe that his armor would evolve as such. James is equipped with hovering/disposable shoulder and wrist cannons, and the entire armor shell is made of a super dense, harder than Iron compressed ceramic material. The details on his black "glass" face plate reveal the War Machine readouts as James sees them from inside.

"Thing is best known for wearing panties in public while barefoot, and being depressed about his albeit useful disfigurement. I imagined that giving him more clothing and shoes could lend a sense of normalcy to this homespun guy. his need for armor is nonexistent, and his need for weapons is diminished by his giant clumsy rock hands, and his immense strength. His color pallet is also to help our friend Thing feel like an individual, separating him from his roots with the Fantastic Four and the Future Foundation."

Jamie Rimmer
"I wanted to show a team, a group of people who would look like a team, and who would be interesting to read about in terms of power and personality.

"Luke Cage/Powerman: Keeping it fairly simple, I quite like his non costume/costume approach, so I tried to keep it something that he would actually wear, which links back to the original Luke Cage costume of canary yellow with chains and armbands, while remembering the growth of the character and keeping it real, but with a bit of a fantastical twist.

"Photon, back to the name because there is only space for one pseudonym-less character on this team! Monica is so kick @$$, it is an actual travesty she isn't used more than she is currently. She is probably one of the most powerful superhumans within the MU, and is also a woman of colour, something that is often lacking. I see Monica more as the group chairperson, utilizing her business know how. I wanted to keep it familiar, but modernise the costume a tad; I kept te basic striking colour scheme, and the massive sleeves, as they are AWESOME! I simplified the chest design a bit, and gave her a skirt. Retro is in at the moment.

"Scarlet Witch is my all time favourite Avenger, and hey, its about time. Powerful sorceress, the team's magic wielder, and stays grounded through her love of the Vision, her constant rock, has perhaps a bit of a toned down power set, more like she used to have before she went crazy. I wanted to play close to Wanda's iconic costumes, with the corsetry implied, the tiara on show, but a more updated version, as this is a strong woman who would have grown out of the skimpy clothes. I have kept some skin on show though, just to reference the character, but hoped this was someting of a more grown up version of the Wanda I love.

"Vision as mentioned, is Wanda's rock and also the heart of the whole of the Avengers as I see it. I wanted the Vision to look a little bit more like an android, as opposed to the painted man he has looked since his creation. I attempted to incorporate a lot more texture within the suit and body, and liked te idea of him having a hood as well as the collar that is part of his usual costume, so I morphed it and included both in the end. I wanted to bring in more angles as I think it fits more with the cybernetic side of things, but I kept the colours similar to what we know and love, although a little more muted.

"Songbird is way past due for a redesign! I wanted to hark back her her origins as Screaming Mimi and bring into it the punkish aspects with the hair, geisha-like makeup and colar, but I also really wanted Songbird to have a minimal, yet striking, design. I played around with curves here, referencing her energy signature that can be seen whilst in flight, the muted colours are something I hoped would be reminiscent of a bird -- that and the hairstyle giving a sort of birds crown/cocks comb effect.

"It was my intention with this team to have a balanced and well rounded team; I liked the idea of them perhaps being a shadow team, a lot of the powers at play lend themselves to espionage, but on reflection I think this team could also be a fine stand in, with a few additions as Earth's Mightiest Heroes themselves!"

What do you all think? Let us know in the comments below, and be sure to send us your redesigns soon! They're due May 20, by 6:00 PM Mountain Time. Check out the Official Contest Announcement for details, and be sure to check out the rest of the Avengers redesigns we've received so far!

Avengers Results - Part 4

Okay, we're back with more Avengers redesigns, and what we've got today are great!

Craig Payne
"I was having trouble choosing which characters to include in my Avengers team. I then came up with the idea to create a Black-Ops team of Avengers (similar to X-Force or Justice League Elite) which made it easier to select characters based on the suitability of their skills and powers for a team of this kind. From left to right: US Agent, Vision, Hawkeye, Mockingbird, Moonknight."

Thomas Crielly
"Initially i was going to give them some sort of 'movie style'  team uniform and make it more realistic but decided against that as i didn't want to basically create one new costume (FF style) and thought full on four-colour old style costumes would also be more fun.

"I decide to give them all a simple consistent 'belt buckle' with optional 'A' shoulder emblems, 'A' Gloves and V shaped tops where appropriate to tie them all together in some form while still allowing them to have individual costumes.

"The Vision: I was never really a fan of the Vision's cowl(?) so dropped that straight off and integrated the cape into the main body of the costume. I also kept his head all red so that he looks less like he is wearing a mask and a feels a bit less human.

"Wasp (Yellowjacket): This is a Hank Pym version combining various elements from his Yellow Jacket, Giant-man and Ant-Man identities.

"Captain America: I dropped the mask as i was never a great fan of it (and especially as it's pretty much the only 'fail' in the Avengers movie) and it's not like he really has a secret identity to protect these days. I wanted to keep all of the other elements in some form though so just tweaked and juggled them around a bit

"She-Hulk: I decided to keep a bit off an exercise / gym theme in her design as she has favoured that over 'proper costumes' in the past. I subdued the colours quite a bit from my fist few versions which were way too over-the-top (even for someone with green skin).

"Valkyrie: I tried to emphasise more of her warrior aspect and introduced some armour elements and a more earthy and gold colour scheme."

Avengers Results - Part 3

Avengers submissions are slowly trickling in, and as the week starts, we've got another fantastic one to share with you all:

Edgar Binuya
"Black Panther: I brought in concepts from the Wakandan flag on the trim of his gloves, boots, and cape. That along with the addition of straps mid-thigh and bicep, I think, evoke more of an African warrior look. I'm not sure if he still has the kimoyo cards. They're really not portrayed if he does. I portrayed them here and changed the shape so that they actually look like some sort of card but maintain that 'fang' look when arranged across on his belt and straps.

"Ant-Man: This design is the return of Henry Pym as Ant-Man. He apparently always had an interest in the capabilities of ants to conduct research and design equipment based on them in the first place. This is him embracing that and, once again, using the theme. He will use all of the abilities that he has ever exhibited in all of his past guises. The middle ant legs in the design are actually robotic arms that come from his back-pack that itself is his "Rover" robotic ship when grown to its actual size.

"Wasp: I really liked the design of her latest costume so this is pretty close to that. I just thought that the skin tight black sneaking suit look was best left to the Black Widow. I extended the yellow armored parts and opened up her neckline to differentiate the look. She didn't need a sneaking suit anyway when she can shrink in size to be stealthy.

"Pulsar: I really liked the long coat look she has sported recently but wanted to incorporate more into the costume as opposed to just wearing it over. I looked at typical depictions of actual pulsars to come up with a new icon and worked it into a stylized 'P.'

"Hercules: I really wanted to cover up the bare chest. I never really cared for that look in a modern day superheroics setting. I went with a modern take on a greek leather curass. I just had to make the lion head more prominent. I wanted to make it a helmet but decided that would cover up his head too much and make him unrecognizable as Marvel's version."

Avengers Results - Part 1

Here we go! The Avengers is just a few days from release, and we're excited to start sharing your redesigns of the super team as it prepares to dominate the box office!

Warren Newsom
"My favorite era of the Avengers was the late 60’s and early 70’s when Roy Thomas was writing the book.  That fractious trio of Hank Pym, Janet Pym, and Clint Barton were the core of the team and they ran through a lot of teammates before Cap, Iron Man, and Thor returned to settle things down.  One of the characters Roy introduced was the Vision, one of my all-time favorite characters.  When Wanda and Vision declared their love for each other as the Kree-Skrull War was building up, it was such goofy, melodramatic fun!  So presented here are:  the Wasp, Giant-Man, Scarlet Witch, the Vision, and Hawkeye – the Mighty AVENGERS!"

Brian Post
"I love the Avengers more than any other super team, but for this challenge I wanted to stay away from the more 'classic' Avengers. I wanted to throw together the most random team I could come up with and try to still make them look like an Avengers team that could go out and kick butt. Therefore, here you have redesigns for Iron Fist, Moon Knight, Nova, Scarlet Witch, and Marvel Boy (Protector).

"Iron Fist - There are two main things I did here: First I went with a crimson and mustard color scheme that I think hints at the power inside of him, and second I referenced the dragon on his mask. Also I gave him a bare chest because that is just how Danny rolls.

"Moon Knight - I ditched the cape and hood. I gave him Stormtrooper-esque armor and a crescent shield referencing the moon. I added the four main phases of the moon to his outfit (waxing and waning on his shoulders, full on his chest and new on his forehead.

"Nova - I wanted to streamline and simplify this one. I got rid of the spikes and made the outfit look like something standardized for an intergalactic police force.

"Scarlet Witch - Scarlet and red tones matched with grays. Her head bandanna thingy plays up the 'witch' aspect.

"Marvel Boy - I hate the recent flood of black and white costumes that have hit Marvel recently and Noh-varr was one of the victims of this trend. I wanted to make a costume for him that would say 'Kree adventurer.' Complete with a jet pack and laser gun and classic Kree green and white colors."
