About

Superhero of the Month is a superhero redesign site. Each month a superhero or villain is chosen for readers to put their imaginations to the test, pencil to paper, and come up with their own take on how they would design the character.

A superhero redesign is different than a re-imagining of the character. Take Spider-Man, for example. His classic red-and-blue uniform is one of the most recognizable costumes in comic history, but in the 1980's he got a new black costume. This costume is radically different from the classic, but its design still easily identifies him as Spider-Man. You don't need to be told who is behind the mask -- you already know.

A good superhero redesign will tell the audience exactly who the character is, even though their costume may be entirely different from what we've ever seen. Superhero of the Month strives to stimulate creativity in artists by offering a superhero or villain for them to redesign in a fashion that makes them unique, while remaining recognizable.

Contests are judged by the Superhero of the Month staff and a revolving door of invited contributors, including sponsors, past contest winners, and those involved in the comics industry. Judging is based on originality, quality, reader comments, and adherence to the site guidelines.

Superhero of the Month has been lucky enough to be featured on MTV Geek, Project: Rooftop, and Big Shiny Robot!, among many other fantastic, comic and art related sites. On July 20, 2011, we were named Blogger's Blog of Note.
